FAQ- Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a professional pet sitter?
Professional pet sitters have years of experience caring for pets and know the signs to watch for when there is a problem. We also know how to react in emergency situations and we are insured and bonded. Our sitters are also extremely committed to our profession and you can count on our reliability. We also have more than 1 sitter on our staff so if an emergency should arise there is always someone available to help.
Are you insured and bonded?
Yes! We carry professional liability insurance and bonding through Pet Sitter Associates and we also have worker’s compensation insurance for our employees.
Will you send me updates about my pet?
Absolutely! We are happy to email or text you daily, each visit, or at the interval of your choosing with updates, report cards, and pictures.
My pet has an illness, will you still watch him?
Leah and Heather are Certified Veterinary Technicians and all our staff have training & experience medicating pets so we are happy to help you out if your pet has a chronic illness like diabetes, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, arthritis, and more. If your pet is actively sick with something potentially contagious (like kennel cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or an upper respiratory disease) please contact us to discuss the situation. We do not charge extra for giving medications. We also offer medical visits specifically for just giving medications without any other services needed.
What services are included in your visits?
We will give food, water, and medications, clean litter boxes, play with your pets, take dogs outside or on a walk, bring in the mail, bring down the trash can, bring in any packages that we are able to safely lift, alternate your lights, open/close the curtains, and water your houseplants. We do not provide any lawn or home care such as mowing the grass, shoveling snow, or caring for any human family members due to insurance reasons.
I would like my dog walked but my schedule varies week to week, can you work around that?
We have many clients with variable schedules and we are happy to work with you. We just ask that you have your schedule to us by 5 pm on the preceding Saturday at the very latest so our staff has time to plan their schedules.
My dog likes to bark at other dogs, will you still walk him?
Many dogs like to bark at other dogs and we have no problems walking them. However, if your dog is aggressive or pulls more than we can handle we will need to only have playtime in a securely fenced yard or you will need to work with a trainer or behaviorist to improve the issue. We are happy to follow instructions your trainer or behaviorist provides but we are not trainers ourselves. We want our walks to be safe and fun for everyone!
Why do you require a visit each day? My cat has an automatic feeder and only needs a visit every few days.
We require at least 1 visit per day for cats and small pets because a lot can change in 24 hours. If your pet became sick, we would want to catch it as quickly as possible. Cat have also accidentally trapped themselves into bathrooms and basements without any food or water, they have become tangled in blinds and strings, they have knocked over their water and been without any more, and pets have gotten into fights while home alone. By coming daily, we can also check on your house and make sure the furnace or air conditioning is still running properly, the pipes haven’t burst, there hasn’t been a fire, or that there hasn’t been a break in. We require at least 2 standard visits per day for dogs because dogs will need to go outside at least every 12 hours and dogs generally want a lot of attention. We notice that dogs with just 2 quick visits a day get more stressed and have a higher incidence of accidents in the house.
Will I always have the same sitter or dog walker?
We want to build relationships with each client and pet and we try to keep the same sitters or walkers whenever possible. You will likely meet at least 2 staff members at your meet and greet and those will be your primary sitters or walkers. However, situations may arise where someone else will need to care for your pets and we will notify you if that is going to happen. All of our staff goes through the same training, follows the same policies, and will give your pets the same great care and attention!
